Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years
Credentials: Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check and Vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be non-smokers, adhering to a smoke-free policy
  • The candidates should be comfortable working in an air-conditioned environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
  • The candidates should lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest
  • The candidates should support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, and assist them in keeping records
  • The candidates should engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts, providing opportunities for them to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
  • The candidates should guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, prepare snacks, and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
  • The candidates should observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems, preparing reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors, and submit written observations to early childhood educators or supervisors
  • The candidates should discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings, be knowledgeable about the Day Nurseries Act and licensing regulations, and attend staff meetings regularly
  • The candidates should establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
  • The candidates should plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children
  • The candidates should plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours, and supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
