Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and the ability to problem-solve accurately in a technical environment with little or no supervision
  • The candidates should have the ability to provide accurate and thorough information to the public both verbally and in writing

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have supplemented by technical courses in engineering or a related area of study, along with considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • The candidates should possess working knowledge of the City’s street system, transportation policies and regulations, the Street and Traffic By-Law, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the Traffic Control Manual for Work on Roadways
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of engineering design principles and methods, as well as engineering mathematics and demonstrate sound knowledge of departmental procedures related to various engineering projects
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of traffic signal construction methods, materials, and traffic signal timing design and management systems and possess advanced computer drafting skills
  • The candidates should be proficient in reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications, as well as performing simple design drafting and demonstrate excellent proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word, with proficiency in GIS software and possess effective written and verbal communication skills
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist in the review of Transportation assessment and management study and development-related reports and analysis
  • The candidates should be able to identify conflicts between proposed Transportation Division geometric designs, traffic signal designs, and signage designs and recommend options or solutions and assist in the maintenance of TDM design standards
  • The candidates should be able to interpret data and information from the Traffic Signal Management System (TSMS) and the Traffic Camera System to develop signal timing recommendations
  • The candidates should be able to follow Organizational Quality Management standards and documentation protocols, including developing and maintaining drafting standards in AutoCAD and provide training and supervision to junior engineering assistants
  • The candidates should be able to use the City’s Hansen system to monitor, coordinate, delegate, track, and ensure that SLA requirements for citizen requests are met for the Arterial TDM team
  • The candidates should be able to use the City’s Hansen system to review and address citizen inquiries and requests from 311, responding to and following up on public concerns and requests
  • The candidates should be able to conduct field investigations and safety studies, including sightline analysis calculations and perform other duties and responsibilities
