Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Masters degree in Social Work or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have Five years working as a counsellor and psychotherapist of which at least three years are in a university or college setting

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current valid registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Worker or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • The candidates should possess previous or current experience providing psychotherapy to individuals with a broad range of diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health issues
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills, along with the ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with the student
  • The candidates should demonstrate sensitivity and an unbiased approach are critical qualities should be capable of working independently but also have experience working in a shared care model
  • The candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the developmental stage of this age group and the unique stresses experienced by students in post-secondary education
  • The candidates should have excellent time management skills are necessary for the candidates to stay on time with appointments
  • The candidates should be flexible and able to respond to unscheduled urgent situations. They should recognize limitations, know when to consult, and seek supervision when appropriate

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Director of Student Wellness Services
  • The candidates should be able to assess clients’ psychological and emotional development
  • The candidates should be able to plan and implement therapeutic interventions
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the ongoing evaluation of counseling service delivery
  • The candidates should be able to provide quality health care to the Carleton University community in accordance with the policies, goals, and objectives of Health & Counseling Services
