Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a two-year college-level technical diploma
Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of full-time experience at an equivalent level of responsibility in the core area

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule that includes nights and weekends, and demonstrate excellent time management skills
  • The candidates should portray a polished, professional image and work well under pressure and manage deadlines effectively
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift heavy objects and the ability to work from plans, drawings, and sketches

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a Class B-R – Full Entertainment Field Safety Representative certificate of qualification or be able to complete the course and receive a certificate of qualification within the 12-month probationary period
  • The candidates should possess thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, electrical systems, equipment, fixtures, tools, and materials utilized in providing stage lighting services in theatre complexes
  • The candidates should have considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions required in this field
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of all applicable collective agreements, codes, regulations, policies, and operating procedures governing
  • The candidates should be able to perform skilled maintenance and repair work on the equipment, fixtures, and systems listed above
  • The candidates should be able to effectively communicate with and assist internal and external customers in achieving their objectives, and interact positively with a diverse clientele
  • The candidates should have the ability to lead and supervise the work of large crews under demanding and pressured conditions and meet deadlines with irregular schedules
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and maintain records, as well as material and equipment estimates, and order supplies
  • The candidates should be skilled in using a variety of tools, equipment, materials, and systems involved in stage productions and possess excellent computer skills and software knowledge
  • The candidates should be able to perform all duties to a high standard and support customer needs with minimal supervision and experience in electronics repair

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to evaluate systems, equipment, and fixtures with respect to operational demands, developing annual maintenance, repair, overhaul, replacement, and upgrade plans and schedules with the supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to perform and supervise maintenance, repairs, overhauls, installations, and upgrades, ensuring proper storage and security of equipment
  • The candidates should be able to provide internal and external users with a variety of advice and assistance on matters related to presenting events at the theatres, which may include creating or adapting lighting designs and temporary system designs
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a positive relationship with clients through effective communication to ensure satisfaction
  • The candidates should be able to plan, coordinate, and supervise event installations and operations, operating complex computerized and manual control systems and other equipment as required by the event
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to solve and troubleshoot technical problems that may arise during an event
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and coordinate the work of assigned crews, train new and unfamiliar crew members, and provide leadership in establishing high standards of operating efficiency, safe work practices, and customer service
  • The candidates should be able to assist other stage and theatre departments as required to ensure smooth operations
  • The candidates should be able to research and provide information for budget submissions to support financial planning
  • The candidates should be able to check, maintain, order, and replace stock and equipment, preparing and maintaining records of work performed and perform related work as required to support overall department objectives
