Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as completion of high school
Experience: Candidates should have some related work experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work outside in all weather conditions and on uneven surfaces

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of safe work procedures and possess a working knowledge of the assigned site, facility, or building areas
  • The candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of custodial practices for buildings and/or animal shelters, as well as the tools, material, and equipment used in the work
  • The candidates should have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and courteously answer questions and deal with the public
  • The candidates should have a valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia
  • The candidates should provide a copy of their three-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 30 days of this posting
  • The candidates should provide a copy of their three-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 30 days of this posting

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform manual work entailing considerable physical effort and agility in the safe performance of a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled jobs around parks
  • The candidates should be able to conduct garden patrol during evenings
  • The candidates should be able to sweep, lock, and arm buildings
  • The candidates should be able to clean public and staff washrooms
  • The candidates should be able to clean at the service yard and other office areas
  • The candidates should be able to dispose of garbage and recycling both inside and outside throughout the garden and perform paper picking around the perimeter of sites
  • The candidates should be able to assist with snow removal as needed
  • The candidates should be able to assist with room setups (tables and chairs) for rentals and events
  • The candidates should be able to provide quality customer service to visitors
  • The candidates should be able to clean and disinfect animal cages, food storage areas, and prepare and distribute animal feed and water (at Bloedel)
