Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed high school
Experience: Candidates should have experience in landscape maintenance or cemetery maintenance

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to exercise some independence of judgment and action in the routine or simple aspects of the work
  • The candidates should have the ability to courteously answer questions and deal with the public, demonstrate the necessary tact and demeanour appropriate for a cemetery setting
  • The candidates should have skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment used in landscape construction and maintenance
  • The candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, sound knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the work

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have or possess an equivalent combination of training and work experience, hold a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and knowledge of safe work procedures
  • The candidates should have some knowledge of construction and landscape maintenance tasks, some knowledge of the functions of a cemetery and the established practices in carrying out the work
  • The candidates should have sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should possess a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher and maintain a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record, including, 5 years accumulation of no more than 9 points, not in excess of 3 points per single year, 3 years accumulation of no more than 1 preventable work-related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year
  • The candidates should be aware that employees who do not demonstrate a satisfactory driving record will have their application reviewed in more detail
  • The candidates should be able to provide a Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years (no more than 14 days prior to this posting)
  • The candidates should be able to provide an Insurance and Claims History for the past 5 years (no more than 14 days prior to this posting)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform interment services, marker foundation installation, grave marker placement, landscaping, general turf care, project work, and other related Cemetery duties as assigned under direct supervision
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy physical labour tasks
  • The candidates should be able to lift, push, and pull heavy objects safely and efficiently, walk or stand continuously for extended periods, with frequent bending or twisting
  • The candidates should be able to work safely near moving machinery and in high-traffic areas, use ladders safely while completing assigned tasks
  • The candidates should be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven surfaces while maintaining productivity and safety
  • The candidates should be able to properly operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment required for Cemetery operations
