Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Candidates should have some laboring experience in construction
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects
- The candidates should be capable of walking or standing continuously with frequent bending or twisting
- The candidates should be able to work close to moving machinery and in high traffic areas
- The candidates should have the ability to work on ladders, elevated areas, and/or confined spaces
- The candidates should be adaptable to working outside in all weather conditions, and on uneven surfaces
- The candidates should be able to exercise some independence of judgment and action in the routine or simple aspects of the work
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience working in roles requiring learning new skills, procedures, and processes
- The candidates should possess knowledge of safe work procedures and demonstrate sound knowledge of the tools, material, and equipment used in the work
- The candidates should have some knowledge of construction and maintenance tasks and knowledge of the functions of the branch concerned and the established practices in carrying out the work
- The candidates should have sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy physical labor
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and follow safe work guidelines and procedures and to work in a safe manner and ability to use a variety of tools and equipment
- The candidates should have the ability to courteously answer questions and deal with the public and possess skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment
- The candidates should possess a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher and a Satisfactory National Safety Code driving record (5 years accumulation of no more than 9 points, not in excess of 3 points per single year and 3 years accumulation of no more than 1 preventable work related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year)
- The candidates should provide a Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years (no more than 14 days prior to this posting)
- The candidates should provide an Insurance and Claims History for the past 5 years (no more than 14 days prior to this posting)
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform manual work entailing considerable physical effort and agility in the safe performance of a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled jobs to maintain and construct the City’s sewer and water system
- The candidates should be able to drive and operate a variety of equipment while performing tasks related to the maintenance and construction of the sewer and water system
- The candidates should be able to have functional and/or physical assessment related to the bona fide position requirements
- The candidates should be able to be fit tested for respirators as operationally
