Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of six months experience in Recreation

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to effectively monitor activities and behavior of participants
  • The candidates should have the ability to assist in the planning and carrying out of special events or programs
  • The candidates should have the ability to lead groups and provide basic skills instruction in various activities and collect fees, issue receipts, and balance cash

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • The candidates should have completed or be registered in an approved diploma program in Recreation, or a related discipline
  • The candidates should possess Standard or Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certification
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the behavior, needs, and interests typical of participants of all ages
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and equipment used in recreational programs and activities
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the safety practices, policies, regulations, and rules applicable to the work performed
  • The candidates should have some knowledge of office practices and procedures and fundamentals of program leadership
  • The candidates should prioritize ensuring the care, welfare, safety, and security of community center patrons and provide first aid

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and a strong appreciation for recreation and social development
  • The candidates should be able to perform routine recreational work, including supervision of recreational programs, set up and take down of equipment, and opening and lockup of the facility
  • The candidates should be able to work independently and as a team member effectively and ensure participants are safe while in the programs
  • The candidates should be able to assist in carrying out special events and monitor the safety and behavior of participants in facility programs or activities such as youth activity nights, gym programs, and special events
  • The candidates should be able to handle tasks such as opening, setting-up, or closing a facility and some moderate clerical responsibilities and office break coverage
  • The candidates should be able to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend shifts
