Hours of Work: The hours of work are 0-40 hours per week. You are expected to work rotating shifts in a health care unit that provides 7 days per week service, up to 24 hours a day

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should currently be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of addressing emergency situations and implementing appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • The candidates should be capable of eliciting, interpreting, and evaluating information from patients and other sources, and drawing conclusions to develop treatment and care plans

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess knowledge of professional standards and guidelines, best practice guidelines, and nursing theories, practices, and relevant legislation (such as the Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act)
  • The candidates should be able to complete a comprehensive health assessment
  • The candidates should have the ability to evaluate patient responses to planned interventions and to modify interventions in collaboration with the inter-professional team to achieve established goals
  • The candidates should possess excellent critical thinking and organizational skills to provide emergency, urgent, and routine health care
  • The candidates should have effective oral and written communication and health teaching skills to deal effectively with staff and clients
  • The candidates should be able to work as a member of an inter-professional team and with a diverse client group

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct health assessments for the purposes of triage and on-going care
  • The candidates should be able to plan for and provide health care treatment
  • The candidates should be able to monitor adherence to treatment plans and response to health care interventions
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with community care providers to obtain health histories and to facilitate transitional care at discharge for both remand and intermittent inmates
  • The candidates should be able to participate in case management
  • The candidates should be able to advocate for and encourage patient participation in the plan of care
  • The candidates should be able to act as a resource for patients, staff, and external stakeholders by sharing their knowledge and expertise
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively as a member of the inter-professional team to develop, implement, and evaluate patient-specific plans of care
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to health program development within the institution
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other staff members and external stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to provide emergency care, acute care, crisis intervention, health teaching, and counseling when required, both for patients considered medically stable and unstable
  • The candidates should be able to practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Standards and Ministry expectations
  • The candidates should be able to practice in accordance with the security requirements of the institution
