Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an educational program diploma in a field related to communications, journalism or marketing
Experience: Candidates should have three or more years’ experience in social media coordination, web writing and digital graphic design

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be aware that where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1-4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time, this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of inter-disciplinary work teams, and to work within defined timelines
  • The candidates should be able to take initiative but also be accepting of feedback and guidance
  • The candidates should be extremely personable and engaging, able to project a personality through online channels

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The candidates should have strong experience and be up to date on current trends, with active posting on standard social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube) and demonstrated passion for social media as a whole
  • The candidates should have strong and engaging writing skills, with a passion for creating interesting and engaging web content
  • The candidates should have strong digital design skills, creative flair, originality, and a strong visual sense
  • The candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task. Experience in event planning is an asset as social coordinators often work as part of a team in preparing and staging Park Board events for media and the public
  • The candidates should have familiarity with content management systems and web analytics
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Hootsuite Enterprise, be Hootsuite University certified, and have experience with Sysomos Heartbeat measurement tools (or other social media analysis tools)
  • The candidates should have strong computer and graphic software knowledge, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, web page editing, or equivalent computer applications
  • The candidates should have knowledge of local government; experience working with elected officials
  • The candidates should have experience working with multicultural communities

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with client departments and the Park Board Communications management team to evaluate social media requirements and required resources
  • The candidates should be able to monitor social media channels for content compliance with editorial guidelines and standards, usability, accessibility and recommend enhancements and recommend solutions, alternatives and advise clients on content and presentation
  • The candidates should be able to provide information and guidance on corporate standards to staff and consultants engaged in social media channels and front-line help desk support in troubleshooting and responding to social media channel problems or recommend staff training
  • The candidates should be able to provide a single tone and voice for the Park Board social media presence and liaise with technical specialists and the web team on technical and operational processes related to social media platform integration
  • The candidates should be able to assist in onboarding new social media accounts, working with Managers to identify account objectives, assess staff ability to post, set up accounts, organize passwords, train staff and posting engaging content
  • The candidates should be able to work with technical specialists and the web team on the resolution of development and support issues and recommend standards, tools and re-evaluate standards based on new developments in social media and stay current on social media trends
  • The candidates should be able to organize meetings for the Park Board social media community of practice and research, test, assess, and recommend best practices, trends, new standards, and tools related to social media, usability, and accessibility
  • The candidates should be able to assist in benchmarking and tracking the effectiveness of social media campaigns and gathering data for regular reporting and research, track analytics, and prepare reports on project or issue-specific social media activity
  • The candidates should be able to recommend useful metrics and use appropriate tools to track reputation or sentiments and analyze and deliver key insights to managers and monitor and track brand-related social media activity and respond in a timely manner to ensure and maintain a positive presence
  • The candidates should be able to provide graphic design support for social media channels and other online environments and design graphic elements and integrate images for campaigns and public engagement for client departments
  • The candidates should be able to produce short videos suitable for social sharing and demonstrate the capacity or willingness to train in video production and editing for social channels
