Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Degree in Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have four to six years’ progressively responsible engineering experience in municipal water, sewer and roadways infrastructure

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and the public
  • The candidates should have the ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of support staff
  • The candidates should have a vehicle suitable for use in the performance of duties
  • The candidates should have the ability to analyze, evaluate, and prepare a wide variety of reports, plans, and specifications
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead, manage, and participate in all phases of engineering projects

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan
  • The candidates should possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • The candidates should have skill in the operation of a computer with word-processing and spreadsheet software

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to manage the planning, design, and construction of complex water and sewer, roadways, and other municipal rehabilitation or land development capital projects within the City of Saskatoon
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with internal civic departments, regulatory agencies, and utility companies on the planning, design, and approval of construction projects
  • The candidates should be able to prepare preliminary and detailed cost estimates for budgeting, approvals and review contractor tenders or proposals for compliance with specifications, schedules, and budgets
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with an internal project team consisting of survey, drafting, and engineering technicians to develop detailed construction drawings, material selections, technical specifications, contracts, and procurement documents
  • The candidates should be able to manage municipal water and sewer, and roadways contractors to confirm projects are following the contract standards, specifications, and regulations while also ensuring delivery within the project budget and schedule
  • The candidates should be able to ensure constant and effective communication between all project stakeholders including civic staff, contractors, regulators, the public, and municipal politicians
  • The candidates should be able to perform regular on-site quality and safety audits throughout construction and investigate, evaluate, and recommend new or alternate technology or construction methodologies
  • The candidates should be able to provide detailed status reports on project finances, schedules, quality assurance, and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the administration or updating of standards, specifications, bylaws, and regulations governing the materials and construction techniques used within municipal water, sewer, and roadways infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to assist with internal process improvement initiatives and supervise and train technical support staff
