Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a Master’s Degree in Science in Pathologist Assistant
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience within the last five working in Pathology
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should constantly lift or move objects less than 10 lbs. and occasionally objects up to 30 lbs
- The candidates should constantly stand, sometimes for extended periods, or sit for extended periods requiring constant repetitive movement. Also, constant bending or stretching and working in awkward positions
- The candidates should constantly require fine finger and precision work and require the use of gross motor skills to perform with accurate control and steadiness
- The candidates should have visual concentration when performing procedures and auditory concentration to communicate and give information, as well as to listen for alarms and timers
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have current and continuing certification with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists’ Assistants (CCCPA) as a Pathologist Assistant
- The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide anatomic pathology services as intensively trained medical laboratory health professionals
- The candidates should be able to gross surgical specimens ensuring standards of practice under the supervision of the Pathologist and Division Manager
- The candidates should be able to describe gross anatomic features, dissect surgical specimens, and perform postmortem evisceration and dissection
- The candidates should be able to prepare tissue for histologic processing and handle or collect biological specimens such as blood, tissue, bone marrow, toxicological material, and fine needle aspirates for various studies
- The candidates should be able to perform studies such as flow cytometry, muscle histochemistry, immunofluorescence, image analysis, and immunohistochemistry
- The candidates should be able to maintain surgical pathology protocols, specimen coding, billing, and equipment and teach and perform other duties
