City of Saskatoon’s Facilities Management Department oversees maintenance and operation of municipal facilities. It provide essential services for recreation centers, libraries, and administrative buildings. With a focus on efficiency and sustainability, it ensure safety and functionality while minimizing environmental impact. Its role is integral in maintaining Saskatoon’s infrastructure and enhancing its livability. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Degree in engineering
Experience: Candidates should have four to six years’ progressive management, engineering and building operations experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of working both independently and effectively in an interdisciplinary group environment
  • The candidates should be able to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of technical and operational staff

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess, or have the ability to obtain, an IFMA, Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation, or a BOMI Facility Management Administrator (FMA)
  • The candidates should have an equivalent combination of technical training and experience in building maintenance and administration, including financial analysis
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the application of codes and regulations governing the design, construction, and operation of facilities OHS, ASHRAE, National Building Code, The Boiler and Pressure Vessels Act
  • The candidates should demonstrate considerable knowledge of corporate safety practices, procedures, and policies, including the Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • The candidates should possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to evaluate, plan, and monitor corrective actions necessary for the optimization of facilities buildings
  • The candidates should be able to manage assigned staff, including hiring, assigning work schedules, assessing staffing needs, identifying and pursuing other resources if necessary, and performing layoff and recall. They should also be able to plan and approve staff development and conduct performance management and disciplinary action
  • The candidates should be able to ensure provincial Permit to Operate parameters are always maintained, including developing, monitoring, and maintaining an effective Quality Assurance or Quality Control policy program. They should provide regular updates to the Facility Manager
  • The candidates should be able to plan and participate in the development and incorporation of action items from the safe work management program and Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings. They should serve as a co-chairperson on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with the Facility Manager regarding all process improvement studies and direct the efforts of all operations staff in this regard
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and assist with the development of Standard Operating Procedures, Contingency Response Plans, and Emergency Response plans for Operations activities
  • The candidates should be able to maintain close liaisons with the Maintenance Manager and assist with the development of the operations budgets
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Facility Manager in the identification, coordination, and commissioning of all capital development projects and serve as a project team leader in reviewing and providing recommendations towards terms of reference, technical drawings, and specifications for all ongoing developments
  • The candidates should be able to perform the duties of the Facility Manager or Maintenance Manager  and supervise, develop, and coordinate the Operator-in-Training program and other related duties as assigned, including 24-hour Direct Responsible Management
