Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Dental Hygiene Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have experience working in public health and with First Nation’s communities

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to travel extensively throughout the rest of Yukon, requiring trips of up to 1-3 weeks; a government-issued fleet vehicle will be provided for this purpose
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be comfortable working with young children (preschool and school-age)
  • The candidates should be responsible for locating and securing their own housing, as this is not provided by the Yukon Government

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a current license or be eligible to be licensed as a Dental Hygienist with Yukon’s Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • The candidates should have experience providing various dental services to children and youth
  • The candidates should have training and experience with Silver Diamine Fluoride and Interim Stabilization Therapy and an understanding of and adherence to the Dental Hygienists’ Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct
  • The candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrate high standards and adherence to infection prevention and control protocols
  • The candidates should have a strong ability to work autonomously and effectively plan and manage a large, diverse workload and maintain effective relationships through collaboration with colleagues and clients
  • The candidates should have an excellent approach to working with children and families and possess leadership skills that demonstrate aptitude in public health and program or service delivery
  • The candidates should have registration with Yukon’s Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for a dental hygiene license
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent, security clearance with vulnerable sectors, undergo TB screening and obtain WHMIS 2015 certification within 1 month of hire
  • The candidates should obtain a CPR certificate within 6 months of hire and obtain a Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate within 6 months
  • The candidates should be able to utilize their personal vehicle within Whitehorse city limits, as this is not provided by the Yukon Government

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess patients’ oral health, perform preventive procedures such as cleanings and fluoride treatments, and educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and overall dental health
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with dentists, dental assistants, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans, ensuring continuity of care for patients in the community
  • The candidates should be able to maintain accurate and confidential patient records, including treatment notes and progress updates, while adhering to government regulations and standards for health information privacy and security
