Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Experience: Candidates should have plus an additional program of three to four years in Urban and Regional Planning
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to work independently or as part of a team and the ability to draft clear, concise reports and planning documents
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have over four (4) years, up to and including eight (8) years of related experience in long-range planning, policy planning studies, and the review of Official Plan and Secondary Plans
- The candidates should have provisional membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), which is mandatory
- The candidates should hold a valid, non-probationary Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- The candidates should possess exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on customer service
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to coordinate the Official Plan review and the review of Secondary Plans, including managing public and stakeholder consultations and conduct research and analysis on a wide range of planning policy issues, including interpreting and implementing Provincial legislation and policies
- The candidates should be able to prepare land use plans and draft policies for new Secondary Plan and Block Plan areas, as well as prepare reports and recommendations for Council presentations
- The candidates should be able to draft comprehensive zoning by-law amendments for specific areas of the City or special study areas and liaise with senior staff of other levels of government and negotiate the approval of official plan amendments by regional and Provincial agencies
- The candidates should be able to advise other departments, the public, and senior staff on the City’s Official Plan, Secondary Plans, Block Plans, and other planning policy documents
- The candidates should be able to coordinate and review background component studies prepared by consultants that contribute to the Official Plan Review and Secondary Plan and Block Planning processes
- The candidates should be able to evaluate study proposals, interview consultants, and assist in consultant selection as part of the selection committee and represent the Planning Department in inter-municipal planning committees, open houses, and public meetings organized by other agencies
- The candidates should be able to review development applications and provide planning policy feedback and undertake site visits and geographic surveys of planning areas and appear before the Ontario Municipal Board to provide expert planning evidence on behalf of the City
- The candidates should be able to monitor the implementation of the City’s Official Plan and Secondary Plan policies, as well as long-range plans of adjacent municipalities and respond to staff and public inquiries during in-person consultations at public information centres, open houses, public meetings, and service counters and perform additional related duties
