Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a recognized Personal Care Attendant Program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should regularly lift, move objects or supplies up to 30 lb and frequently stand and walk
- The candidates should regularly require a variety of body movements including bending, kneeling, and stretching and push and pull objects using light to medium force
- The candidates should perform data input, visual monitoring, and maintain higher than normal levels of attentiveness
- The candidates should pay attention to the health and safety of others in the provision of all forms of care
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have equivalency as determined by the employer or equivalency that may include completion of an adequate portion of the BN or Practical Nurse program to enable them to meet a majority of the duties, responsibilities, and psychomotor competencies of the PCA
- The candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills and maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, and families
- The candidates should demonstrate initiative, be able to work independently, and prioritize work duties and a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide support to residents in all aspects of daily living through companionship, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial care
- The candidates should be able to perform duties related to residents’ personal needs, including nutrition, personal hygiene, and mobility
- The candidates should be able to assist with planning and providing various recreational activities
- The candidates should be able to support families and residents for end-of-life issues and escort residents
- The candidates should be able to perform duties under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, in keeping with the philosophy of resident-centered care
- The candidates should be able to work in complex long-term care settings, addressing diverse needs from chronic illness and cognitive impairments to physical and intellectual disabilities
- The candidates should be able to manage a fast-paced work environment with frequent contact with the public, residents, and other health professionals
