Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to take direction well and work effectively both in an inter-professional team and independently
  • The candidates should have attention to detail and the ability to work with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of mental health and psychiatric work experience (at least one year) with people with mental illness and addictions and complex medical issues
  • The candidates should preferably have experience working in, or recent clinical practicums in, mental health or rehabilitation facilities, and possess or be currently enrolled in a diploma or degree in a health field
  • The candidates should have knowledge of, and ability to manage, responsive behavior, and crisis prevention and intervention skills and Gentle Persuasive Approaches training
  • The candidates should have computer literacy and Bilingualism (French and English) and proficiency in a second language and familiar with ergonomics of safe patient handling

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide personal support to clients, including assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), accompanying/escorting clients on and off site for transfers, appointments, and programming, and maintaining close or continuous observation of clients
  • The candidates should be able to use least restrictive strategies in the prevention of restraint and seclusion to help maintain safety
  • The candidates should be able to collect data on and communicate both verbally and in writing, behavioral observations and clients’ responses to interventions
  • The candidates should be able to assume an active role in maintaining security of the program and service through their relationships with clients, as well as through regulation of the physical environment
