Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have High school graduation plus an additional program of 3-4 years or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have Over four (4) years, up to and including eight (8) years of experience in land use planning with demonstrated knowledge of complex projects

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in land use planning with demonstrated knowledge of complex projects, including community block plans, subdivision plans, official plan and zoning amendments, site plan approvals, part lot control by-laws, variances and consents, and plans of condominium
  • The candidates should hold full Membership with both the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), and a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation with the Ontario Profession Planners Institute (OPPI). Alternatively, the candidate should be eligible for full membership and will be required to achieve the full membership within 2 years of commencing their role in the advertised position
  • The candidates should possess exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service
  • The candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a team and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • The candidates should demonstrate superior organizational, time, and project management skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to undertake required work on complex, major planning proposals and projects within a community planning context, reporting to the Manager, Development Services
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate and coordinate the community block plan process as a Team Leader, liaising with other departments and agencies, and effectively communicating proposals, projects, and planning matters to the public
  • The candidates should be able to review, process, and formulate planning opinions on complex, major planning proposals and projects within a community planning context, including community block plans, plans of subdivisions applications, official plan and zoning amendment applications, site plan applications, minor variance and consent applications, part lot control applications, plan of condominium applications, and other comprehensive projects or special studies as assigned
  • The candidates should be able to process major planning proposals and projects by circulating to departments and agencies for comment, coordinating and analyzing comments, conducting research, attending and conducting site visits, preparing reports and recommendations, attending and making presentations at Development Review Team, Planning and Committee, Site Plan Committee, the Committee of Adjustment and Corporate Teams, preparing implementation documents (by-laws, official plan amendments, conditions of draft plan approval), and providing comments on subdivision, rezoning, condominium, and site plan agreements, and on community information maps
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with City departments and agencies (including contact at some senior levels) and the public on planning proposals and planning matters
  • The candidates should be able to respond to general inquiries and provide effective and informative customer service
  • The candidates should be able to attend and provide professional planning evidence at the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal on assigned planning proposals and projects
  • The candidates should be able to maintain up-to-date land use planning knowledge and updated legislation through attending seminars and courses and reading industry publications
  • The candidates should be able to provide guidance to technical service and administration staff on assigned planning proposals and projects
  • The candidates should be able to conduct site inspections to ensure compliance
