Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Bridge Watch Certificate from Transport Canada to SCTW 95
Experience: Candidates should have experience in a marine environment, including bridge look-out duties and steering duties

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to solve problems independently and ability to manage time effectively
  • The candidates should be client-service oriented, ability to work in a team and demonstrate a commitment to safety

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience using deck machinery or equipment such as capstans, windlass, and ropes
  • The candidates should have experience with cash handling and cash handling skills, computer skills
  • The candidates should possess equivalent as determined by the Canada Shipping Act 2001 and applicable vessel Safe Manning Document
  • The candidates should have a valid Marine Medical Certificate and a Marine Basic First Aid Certificate
  • The candidates should have knowledge of bridge look-out duties and steering duties, including the use of deck machinery and equipment in a marine environment
  • The candidates should be required to provide a Certificate of Conduct and the Vulnerable Sector Query satisfactory to the Employer

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to sell tickets, collect fares, maintain a cash float, reconcile monies, and prepare them for deposit on a daily basis
  • The candidates should be able to assist passengers, both foot and vehicular, to board and disembark the vessel
  • The candidates should be able to perform purser and general seamanship duties under the direction of the captain or designate
  • The candidates should be able to assist in securing and releasing mooring lines for ferry arrivals and departures, including handling ramps and gangways
  • The candidates should be able to perform general maintenance and upkeep work on the ferry, including janitorial duties and other related tasks
  • The candidates should be able to actively participate in all required safety drills and safety-related meetings
  • The candidates should be able to use a computer as required for the performance of their duties
