Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduation from a two-year, post-secondary program in recreation and leisure
Experience: Candidates should have One year’s related experience in the delivery of aquatic, fitness and/or recreation programs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid recognized standard first aid and CPR certificates and have the ability to complete in-house Aquatic Training within 6 months of hire
  • The candidates should preferably possess Red Cross Swim Kids 10 (Aqua Quest 12) or Red Cross Aqua Leader certification
  • The candidates should preferably possess Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association, or other recognized certification in fitness
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the theory, philosophy, standards, trends, and practices of recreation program planning, particularly in a municipal setting
  • The candidates should be familiar with the methods of evaluation related to aquatic, fitness, and recreation programs
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to oversee the delivery of aquatic, fitness, and/or recreation programs
  • The candidates should be able to express ideas and concepts effectively orally and in writing to staff and the public
  • The candidates should possess the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, volunteers, and the public
  • The candidates should demonstrate leadership skills in program delivery
  • The candidates should have skill in the operation of a computer with word-processing and spreadsheet software

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to monitor the activities delivered by either the Department or in cooperation with external agencies at various sites and able to implement and monitor activities scheduled for the program site in accordance with the directives identified in the activity plan and annual schedule
  • The candidates should be able to monitor participant enrollment and make adjustments to the program schedule to accommodate demand and able to monitor the quality of all aspects of activities delivered either by the Department or in cooperation with external agencies to maintain customer satisfaction and ensure technical standards are met
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the leadership and development of program staff, including selection/hiring, training and orientation, outlining expectations, scheduling, supervising and monitoring performance, mentoring, coaching, and leading by example
  • The candidates should be able to complete written performance assessments and provide development and guidance to program staff and able to assist with scheduling activity space and identifying activities in accordance with the program planning cycle, collaborating with and receiving direction from the program design team throughout the cycle
  • The candidates should be able to assist with preparing the site for various events, providing support to meet the operational needs of the user, such as set-up, staffing, and maintaining program equipment
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and administer contracts for contracted program staff as directed and able to coordinate, participate in, and evaluate orientation and in-service training programs for program staff
  • The candidates should be able to purchase equipment and supplies for scheduled activities in accordance with the budget and maintain an inventory of assets and able to ensure program space is ready for activities delivered by the Department and agencies renting the facility
  • The candidates should be able to provide interpretation of program and rental policies and procedures for the public and staff and able to deal with customers to resolve issues, respond to inquiries, and resolve conflicts
  • The candidates should be able to assist with activity evaluation by compiling statistics, providing rationale, and preparing recommendations for program operations and able to prepare written documents as required, including program summary evaluations, memos, orientation outlines, and checklists
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
