Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited nursing education program
Experience: Candidates should have Six or more months experience in working in neurology, with stroke and brain injured patients

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of carrying out the duties of this position, which is physically demanding and requires assisting with ADLs including toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring, repositioning, escorting patients to and from programs, and managing behavioral patients due to brain injury

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and a practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • The candidates should have current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • The candidates should understand that complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at times for care
  • The candidates should exhibit leadership, observation, strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a psychiatric and rehabilitation setting
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent assessment, organizational, and patient care skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations
  • The candidates should be able to take necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, families, communities, and populations
  • The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • The candidates should be able to teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families
  • The candidates should be able to play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care and reflect the shared vision and values of AHS
