Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Degree in Business Administration or Commerce
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience with auditing or report writing

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should exhibit the ability to manage time and tasks effectively
  • The candidates should have the ability to lead others
  • The candidates should have conditions of acceptance include willingness to accept daytime and overnight in-province travel (significant)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed a Certified or Professional Accounting Designation
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of the fishing industry in the Province related to fish buying and processing and knowledge of the Fish Inspection Act and regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal and provide proof of a class 5 driver’s licence
  • The candidates should demonstrate proficiency in relationship building and possess strong analytical abilities
  • The candidates should present a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the local police
  • The candidates should acknowledge the requirement for performing work outside and in remote locations

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to supervise a Fisheries Auditor in conducting compliance, financial, and investigative audits of fish buyers and processors licensed under the Fish Inspection Act and Regulations across the Province
  • The candidate should be able to consult with the Director to plan and prioritize audit projects, ensuring deadlines are met and travel extensively throughout the province
  • The candidate should be able to analyze audit findings to assess compliance with legislation, policies, procedures, and directives
  • The candidate should be able to review and ensure accuracy and professionalism in audit reports outlining findings and recommendations for corrective action
  • The candidate should be able to prepare briefing notes and present findings to senior management and Executive
  • The candidate should be able to liaise with legal counsel and other audit and enforcement bodies
  • The candidate should be able to serve as an expert witness at legal proceedings, presenting evidence to support audit findings
  • The candidate should be able to provide financial analysis and support to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Branch on matters affecting the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture
