Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have significant experience clerking Courts at Territorial/Provincial and Supreme/Superior Court levels
Experience: Candidates should have completion of post-secondary education, preferably in a justice-related field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of performing multiple tasks with competing deadlines
- The candidates should expect regular travel for court circuit by small plane and motor vehicle
- The candidates should be prepared to work overtime with little or no notice, sitting in court for long periods of time without regular breaks
- The candidates should be capable of interacting with individuals who are emotional or angry and who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- The candidates should be comfortable with handling dangerous exhibits
- The candidates should be willing to wear court attire while in court
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience working in a Territorial/Provincial Court Registry, including filing criminal documents and preparing criminal files for court hearings
- The candidates should also possess experience with the Territorial/Provincial Appeal Court, including clerking court, filing documents, and arranging case management hearings
- The candidates should demonstrate experience in supervising and training court clerks or other justice staff and possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- The candidates should demonstrate tact and good judgment and exhibit strong organization and work prioritization skills
- The candidates should demonstrate attention to detail and Self-motivation and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- The candidates should have the ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality and able to carry out often-conflicting directions from multiple justice participants, such as lawyers, judges, and managers
- The candidates should be Demonstrating cultural sensitivity and possessing an understanding of the intersection between the justice system and colonial history, including the impact of residential schools
- The candidates should a valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s License and Security clearance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to supervise the activities of the court clerks
- The candidates should be able to carry out the same functions of the court clerks
- The candidates should be able to ensure that courts have the required staff, equipment, and services required for the efficient operation of the courts
