Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have background in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Education Assistant, and/or a related discipline
Experience:Â Candidates should have a minimum of six months related experience working with children and/or youth with disabilities
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to assist individuals with mobility challenges, including lifting and transferring
- The candidates should have the stamina to work long shifts and perform physically demanding tasks
- The candidates should be comfortable with providing hands-on care and support
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate experience with inclusion, effective problem management, working effectively as part of a team, and developing relationships with staff co-workers
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide constant communication with Volunteer Coordinators in regards to the participant’s portfolios, background information, program progress, and in assessing and dealing with any participant challenges
- The candidates should be able to maintain regular communication with participant’s parents regarding their child’s progress
- The candidates should be able to assist participants to integrate into camp activities and recreation settings
- The candidates should be able to work with staff to incorporate children with disabilities into licensed programs. This includes being aware of the plans for each day and working together to recognize activities in which the child can participate. Provide input into programs that may need to be modified and assess activities that may not be suitable for the participant
- The candidates should be able to assist with participants’ toileting (when necessary)
- The candidates should be able to deal with problems and behavioral issues that may arise
