Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available to work shifts, away from home on various work cycles, and occasional overtime and perform repetitive physical activities
- The candidates should be able to work outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions, involving physical work
- The candidates should have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds (22 kg) frequently and up to 70 pounds (32 kg) occasionally
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have good eye-hand coordination and grasping skills and foreman or supervisory experience
- The candidates should have experience in similar working conditions and knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
- The candidates should have equivalent General Education Diploma (GED) and a valid Driver’s License
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with others and share information and communicate with impact
- The candidates should lead by example for the safety and security of all, set direction and inspire others and consider ESG principles in all operations
- The candidates should have welding skills (if applicable) and knowledge of signals or Rail Operating Rules
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to inspect and maintain track structure and right-of-way to CN’s specifications and and develop track forces to ensure quality maintenance and safe work performance
- The candidates should be able to inspect track work upon completion and approve track for service and maintain train operating restrictions in alignment with track standards
- The candidates should be able to implement safety directives and assist in the development of safety programs and goals
- The candidates should be able to remove and replace defective ties, rails, spikes, and anchors and correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge
- The candidates should be able to install and repair street and railroad crossings and help unload ballast as well as unload and distribute track material
- The candidates should be able to assist in the replacement and repair of items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
- The candidates should be able to sort used track material for loading, which may be loaded by hand and clear brush, vegetation, snow, and litter from railroad right-of-way
- The candidates should be able to establish and maintain drainage and clean up after work completion
- The candidates should be able to comply with track safety standards, Operating Rules, and Safe Work Procedures
