Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have Five years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to observe and analyze the operating capability of other operators and to instruct and train in the process involved
  • The candidates should have the ability to perform the services required to assist the mechanical or service staff
  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform the assigned duties and prepared for shift work and weekend work

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence and a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
  • The candidates should possess, or be able to obtain, a valid first aid certificate and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should successfully complete, or be able to complete, the core training module for heavy equipment operation
  • The candidates should successfully complete, or be able to complete, the backhoe or excavator training module to be eligible for certification
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, and the uses and maintenance characteristics of the equipment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the methods, materials, and parts used in repairing and servicing equipment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to operate various types of equipment such as trucks, front-end loaders, and motor graders in the Roadways section
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and service equipment being operated and maintain appropriate service records
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the training and instruction of proper operating and servicing procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the servicing of equipment and perform other related duties
