Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 2 to less than 3 years
Experience with special needs children: Children with a mental health disability, Children with an intellectual disability, Children with behavioural issues, Children with allergies, Children with asthma, and Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD)
Credentials: Child development assistant (ECE level 1) and Emergency child care first aid and CPR
Security and safety: Criminal record check, Child Abuse Registry check, Child welfare check, and Vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be comfortable working outdoors and able to work in air-conditioned environments
  • The candidates should be non-smokers and physically capable of meeting demanding tasks, including handling repetitive tasks and a combination of sitting, standing, and walking
  • The candidates should be comfortable with bending, crouching, and kneeling as required

  • The candidates should prioritize punctuality and exhibit dependability
  • The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills, demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and have interpersonal awareness

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers, develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, and engage in storytelling
  • The candidates should be able to assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote children’s development, lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest, and encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
  • The candidates should be able to guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, maintain daycare equipment, and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
  • The candidates should be able to prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods, observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems, and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors
  • The candidates should be able to discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings, establish guidelines for behavior, and assess the abilities, interests, and needs of children, discussing progress or problems with parents and other staff members
  • The candidates should be able to attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children, establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children, and plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children
  • The candidates should be able to plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours and supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
