Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years
Experience with special needs children:
Children who are blind or visually impaired, Children who are deaf or hard of hearing, Children with a mental health disability, Children with a physical disability, Children with an intellectual disability, Children with behavioural issues, Children with Down syndrome, Children with allergies, Children with asthma, Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD), Children with diabetes, Children with epilepsy, and Children with a genetic disorder
Credentials: Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Certificate, Child development assistant (ECE level 1), Emergency child care first aid and CPR, Food allergy and anaphylaxis training, First Aid Certificate, and CPR Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check, Child Abuse Registry check, Bondable, and Vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform repetitive tasks, handle physically demanding work, and be attentive to detail
  • The candidates should be able to manage a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, and be comfortable with bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • The candidates should possess manual dexterity

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess the children’s development to prepare a learning plan tailored to their needs, develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, and assist early childhood educators in carrying out these programs
  • The candidates should be able to assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties, maintain daycare equipment, and assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
  • The candidates should be able to engage in storytelling, lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest, and encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
  • The candidates should be able to guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods, and observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors
  • The candidates should be able to submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors, discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings, and have knowledge of licensing regulations
  • The candidates should be able to establish guidelines for behavior, attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children, and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
  • The candidates should be able to plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children and plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
