Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French Language
Education: Candidates should have a recognized Diploma in Early Childhood Education, typically accompanied
Experience: Candidates should have three years of applicable administrative or early childhood education experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should complete First Aid and Infant or Child CPR training during the probationary period
  • The candidates should consider a degree in Early Childhood Education or in Education with a focus on early childhood development
  • The candidates should undergo a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check, as this is a Highly Sensitive Position
  • The candidates should note that the Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French, with fluency in more than one of these languages
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience in a northern cross-cultural environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure facilities and programs adhere to the standards established by Nunavut’s Child Day Care Act
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and clients to identify and implement opportunities to improve the availability and affordability of childcare in Nunavut
  • The candidates should be able to conduct thorough inspections of early childhood facilities, including the review of registration documents, policies, and records, to ensure compliance
  • The candidates should be able to investigate complaints about facilities and programs and take appropriate corrective actions
  • The candidates should be able to liaise effectively with relevant agencies to maintain and enforce operational standards
