Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of grade 8
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 1 year of experience in maintenance and repair of bridges including road bridges, open space bridges, and other timber structures

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have sufficient physical strength and agility to perform required duties

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
  • The candidates should have First Aid training and have knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in bridge, staircase, boardwalk, lookout, dock, boat launch maintenance, and repair
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety aspects applicable to the work and have woodwork experience
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and  and should be able to interpret work plans and provide specific instructions to crews and other leaders
  • The candidates should have alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, and fostering an environment for others to do the same
  • The candidates should demonstrate the foundational competencies, key behaviors, and attributes of the City’s six leadership competencies: Courage, Inclusivity, Values-Based Influencer, Collaborative Networker, Systems Thinker, and Creative Innovator

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to engage in the maintenance and repair of bridges, piers, staircases, boardwalks, lookouts, docks, and boat launches throughout the city
  • The candidates should be able to operate and perform minor maintenance of various types of equipment, including various-sized jackhammers, drills, chain saws, tampers, sandblasters, and concrete vibrators
  • The candidates should be able to work on structural steel, concrete, asphalt, or wood components of bridges and able to perform bridge washing and debris removal
  • The candidates should be able to perform bridge painting, sandblasting, sealing, grouting, placing and finishing structural concrete
  • The candidates should be able to handle various toxic products such as epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints, thinners, and cleaners
  • The candidates should be able to assist with on-site setup, maintenance, and cleanup, including scaffolding construction and dismantling, barricade locating, and equipment locating
  • The candidates should be able to load and unload equipment from trucks, perform flagman duties and perform other related duties as require
