Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Accounting
Experience: Candidates should have three years of progressively responsible related accounting experience, ideally within the public sector environment
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to take initiative, think logically, problem-solve independently, and complete detailed work with a high degree of accuracy
- The candidates should be aware that the weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change in the future. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton or Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a recognized Canadian professional accounting designation CPA, CA, CMA and CGA
- The candidates should have capital or project accounting experience and a working knowledge of financial systems, such as SAP
- The candidates should have considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, reporting requirements, and practices
- The candidates should have sound written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial operational staff
- The candidates should have strong technical proficiency with Excel and Google Suite and experience in preparing a variety of complex and diverse financial statements and reports
- The candidates should be able to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel
- The candidates should possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide departments with professional accounting advice and guidance in matters pertaining to financial policies and procedures and perform other related duties
- The candidates should be able to prepare, research, and manage journal entries, reconciliations, funding analysis, and other related functions to maintain the General Ledger
- The candidates should be able to ensure the financial integrity of the Fixed Asset Module and apply appropriate capitalization rules and policies to maintain the Fixed Asset System
- The candidates should be able to prepare and organize year-end working papers, departmental financial statement preparation, and other related year-end duties within prescribed deadlines
