Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have five years of office experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to interpret and make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • The candidates should have the ability to maintain moderately complex accounting records and prepare account reconciliations and reports
  • The candidates should have the ability to maintain attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • The candidates should have the ability to operate word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a Diploma in Accounting or successful completion of a recognized one-year post-secondary business-related program, including the following courses or equivalent, Introductory Accounting 1, Introductory Accounting 2, Intermediate Accounting , Intermediate Accounting 2, Management Accounting 1, Management Accounting 2 and Commercial Law
  • The candidates should have considerable knowledge of audit standards and practices and knowledge of the City’s utility billing, assessment, and taxation processes and system

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare the daily balancing for division financial systems and communicate any discrepancies with other divisions and departments
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and verify utility and property tax direct debit and prepare all bank transactions for the Corporation, including wire payments, transfers, and stop payments
  • The candidates should be able to prepare entries to the revenue collections system to correct point-of-sales batches, process and reconcile returned items, and prepare customer refund cheques
  • The candidates should be able to process various assessment and tax transactions in division business systems and monitor and verify the accuracy and integrity of the data entered into the Assessment Appraisal System
  • The candidates should be able to review, prepare, and enter department journal entries into the corporate General Ledger System
  • The candidates should be able to complete complex bank and general ledger account reconciliations, including investigating and clearing outstanding and unusual items
  • The candidates should be able to prepare, process, reconcile, and maintain payroll records and files, and respond to payroll-related inquiries for assigned work groups
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the review, development, and implementation of controls, procedures, and forms and perform other related duties
