Government of Nunavut’s Qulliq Energy Corporation Department is the sole electricity provider for Nunavut’s. QEC operates diesel power plants to generate and distribute power. It focuses on delivering reliable, safe, and affordable electricity. The corporation also explores renewable energy sources to reduce environmental impact. As a public utility, QEC supports the territory’s economic development and quality of life. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of High school education
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the production and distribution of power
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s abstract
- The candidates should possess basic computer skills and knowledge of Nunavut, including the land, language, and culture
- The candidates should have a related journeyman certificate in the electrical or mechanical trades or an equivalent qualification
- The candidates should have the ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and French
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to operate the plant, ensuring all safety and emergency equipment are maintained in accordance with applicable standards
- The candidates should be able to conduct plant checks as required to ensure there are no issues requiring immediate attention
- The candidates should be able to perform minor preventative maintenance and emergency repairs
- The candidates should be able to monitor fuel transfers to ensure safe and expedient delivery according to QEC fuel transfer procedures
- The candidates should be able to assist with inspection, repairs, and verification of line and metering equipment
- The candidates should be able to assist area maintenance or contract maintenance crews in the completion of projects regarding scheduling, monitoring, and actual hands-on assistance
- The candidates should be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with community and local business representatives
