Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Electronic Engineering Technology Diploma or Technologist graduate from a recognized Community College or High School graduate
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years experience working in the repair and maintenance of electronic components

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should exhibit the ability to work efficiently and effectively on a large number of tasks concurrently and have the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines while remaining on budget
  • The candidates should be capable of producing technical documentation and drawings and organize and stock the work area to ensure rapid repairs and cost-effective operations
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the routine manual labor components of the position

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have eligibility for registration as a technologist with CTTAM, which would be desirable and possess the ability to quickly and accurately diagnose electronic defects, develop repair plans, and perform board-level repairs on electronic equipment
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to design, test, and implement modifications to electronic components
  • The candidates should have knowledge of computer systems and software used for preparing technical documentation and drawings
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of PLC programming languages and diagnostic software
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work creatively and exhibit good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, following the Respectful Workplace Standard
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and have the ability to obtain a Class 2 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement within five months of employment (In-house training)
  • The candidates should possess a complete set of hand tools required for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to inspect, diagnose, repair, and modify electronic controllers, computer system hardware/software, and other electronic components/parts used on Transit fleet vehicles and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot, diagnose problems, perform repair/modification work, and maintain all types of electronic equipment, vehicle PLC systems, components, and devices currently used in the operation of Transit’s vehicle fleet and Plant and Equipment Division
  • The candidates should be able to identify electronic devices that are not operating optimally and manage projects related to the modification and retrofit of vehicle electronic systems in accordance with specified operating requirements
  • The candidates should be able to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade all electronic program software related to the operating systems used in Transit Fleet Vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to generate drawings, schematics, and prepare technical bulletins for manuals as required
  • The candidates should be able to source and obtain inventory replacement parts required to repair equipment, related components, and/or parts
  • The candidates should be able to research product specifications, perform necessary repairs or modifications, and conduct final inspection with required standards and policies
  • The candidates should be able to maintain both hard copy records and/or computerized database to document equipment repairs, modifications, and relevant specifications/drawings
  • The candidates should be able to remain current with developments in electronic components, test equipment, repair procedures, and vehicle electronic standards and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to design, prototype, assemble, and test revised electronic systems
  • The candidates should be able to train and assist staff in electronic diagnosis and repair, perform general wiring repairs and installations on wiring harnesses, and perform other related duties consistent with classification, as required
