Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a 2 year Diploma in Engineering Technology, Telecommunication Technology or a related discipline
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum 2 years of related work experience in the Telecommunication field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be in good physical condition and have the ability to perform work in confined spaces or high spaces and lift up to 30 pounds

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of LMR radio systems, end user equipment, and related technologies and have the ability to quickly resolve system problems to meet service delivery requirements
  • The candidates should be skilled in diagnosing issues related to technical systems, including End User radio equipment and radio codeplug configurations, Telecom equipment, and application software systems and subsystems
  • The candidates should have the ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, as well as communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • The candidates should be able to work cohesively within a team, have a customer-focused approach, multitask, and resolve issues and should possess excellent interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange their own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
  • The candidates should demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to deliver services related to radio equipment (i.e. portables, mobiles, and DVRS) as well as mobile data terminals (MDT) used in Fire vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to deliver services within established timelines to maintain an optimum performance level of equipment at all times
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Technical Support Captain on MDT hardware and application for delivery of repair and service, including imaging, documenting, and testing MDTs for deployment
  • The candidates should be able to maintain and troubleshoot emergency vehicle intersection preemption equipment and communicate regularly with user groups and supervisors to update on the state of projects
  • The candidates should be able to test and perform technical reviews of new and existing telecommunication equipment, develop specifications and reports if required, and initiate actions to ensure the integrity of the systems are maintained
  • The candidates should be able to provide consultation on the effective use of standard radio and telecommunication systems and maintain accurate equipment inventory and documentation within the Technical Services portfolio
  • The candidates should be able to maintain current knowledge of Public Safety technologies and trends
