Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a recognized Forest Technician training program
Experience: Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of specific and demonstrated experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be in good physical health to conduct the required fieldwork and technical experience working on forestry-related projects
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be familiar with forestry and forest pest management practices and principles
- The candidates should have or be able to obtain a provincial pesticide applicators certificate and and have strong self-initiative and engagement to produce timely and reliable results
- The candidates should possess strong team, interpersonal, and communication skills to work collaboratively with other strike team members, HWA partners, and volunteers
- The candidates should be familiar with research, data collection, and analysis techniques and familiarity with and skills to utilize Microsoft Office products
- The candidates should maintain a high standard of capability in oral and written communication, time management, organizing, and problem-solving
- The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a dedicated team of Risk Services professionals, as well as other stakeholders and operate with considerable independence and a minimum of direct supervision
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to assist with identifying priority NRR HWA assessment and protection tasks and GIS layers and software to identify potential high-priority hemlock stands
- The candidates should be able to assist with the planning and coordination of pre-assessment work to assess the eligibility of high-priority hemlock stands for treatment
- The candidates should be able to assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of chemical treatments in accordance with safe work practices, pesticide label instructions, and any other provincial and federal regulatory or legislative requirements
- The candidates should be able to conduct fieldwork in rugged and isolated terrain with associated hazards inclement weather, biting flies or ticks, slippery footing
- The candidates should be able to carry and use a backpack sprayer containing 15 L (33 pounds or 15 kg) of product for chemical treatments in the field
- The candidates should be able to assist with adherence to pesticide label limits, proper use of PPE, maintenance of spray equipment, and storage of chemical insecticides
- The candidates should be able to assist other strike team members with field data collection requirements for pre-assessments and treatments using ArcGIS software
- The candidates should be able to assist with evaluating and improving work efficiencies as needed to increase treatment and pre-assessment productivity
- The candidates should be able to assist with summarizing and reporting on NRR pre-assessment and HWA treatment results
- The candidates should be able to assist with the coordination of work between NRR strike team members and other HWA partners, including volunteers
