Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a certificate in Legal Administration or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience using database programs including PRISM, COMS and CCAIN

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience performing senior-level legal administrative duties, including extensive case file review and management
  • The candidates should demonstrate experience in analyzing and interpreting complex technical or legal documents, case files, procedures, and related legislation to make appropriate recommendations and also demonstrate effective organizational skills, including the ability to identify priorities, manage a heavy workload, and meet deadlines
  • The candidates should possess excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare legal documents and correspondence and exhibit excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak publicly
  • The candidates should have the ability to pay attention to detail and maintain a high degree of accuracy and should be able to work independently and show initiative under minimal supervision
  • The candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact and assertively negotiate with legal professionals, policing agencies, and independent decision-making skills with the ability to exercise discretion and judgment
  • The candidates should have experience dealing effectively with confidential and sensitive material and should be proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, or equivalent programs
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to adapt, learn, and grow through challenges, pressure, or adversity – resilience
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of the criminal justice system within Manitoba and restorative justice principles
  • The candidates should possess experience working in a sales-driven environment and should ideally have trade experience and detail-oriented
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and reading skills and proficient with computers and should exhibit excellent decision-making ability and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to represent the Crown in provincial triage and administrative courts, effectively advocating for the prosecution’s interests
  • The candidates should be able to assess case files for preparation and completeness, identifying any missing information or discrepancies requiring attention from the Crown Attorney
  • The candidates should be able to draw relevant information from case files to the attention of the Crown Attorney, ensuring all pertinent details are considered in legal proceedings
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate court procedures related to the custody and bail provisions outlined in the Criminal Code, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and protecting the Crown’s interests
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the pre-trial administration of criminal matters, managing documentation and scheduling to ensure smooth proceedings in court
  • The candidates should be able to assess cases for potential referral to restorative justice programming, considering alternative approaches to traditional prosecution when appropriate
