Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have two years of experience with commercial and industrial refrigeration and cooling system installations

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, the ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings and the ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work while maintaining required records
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, the ability to instruct and supervise employees and the ability to coordinate and monitor work performed by contractors in the areas of installation, repair, or maintenance of associated equipment
  • The candidates should have the ability to physically perform the duties of the position and be able to acquire within the first year of employment, a thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the position’s area of work
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing all duties of the position, in all weather conditions. This includes, but may not be limited to, climbing ladders and scaffolds, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
  • The candidates should have the ability to work various shifts, including evenings and weekend and maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the candidates possess a work permit, they should ensure the permit remains valid

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic License recognized by the Province of Manitoba
  • The candidates should possess a Journeyman Red Seal Gas Fitter, Gas Fitter “A,” or Journeyman Red Seal Domestic Gas Fitter or Gas Fitter “B” certification
  • The candidates should have completed MOPIA Training and experience using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
  • The candidates should have knowledge of regulations applicable to the area of work, in addition to related occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • The candidates should be proficient in operating a personal computer using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, and have the ability to learn other software
  • The candidates should successfully complete and maintain a Winnipeg Police Service Level 2 Security Clearance satisfactory to the employer. This position may require a Level 3 security clearance from the Winnipeg Police Service
  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check at their expense and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License. They should provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic License recognized by the Province of Manitoba and maintain a Journeyman Red Seal Gas Fitter, or Gas Fitter “A,” or Journeyman Red Seal Domestic Gas Fitter or Gas Fitter “B” certification
  • The candidates should possess a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent, or be willing and able to obtain it within three (3) months of commencing in the position and possess a WFPS service person license or be able to obtain it within three (3) months of commencing in the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain and repair HVAC systems and coordinate contractors
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate annual regulatory inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidates should be able to maintain cooperative working relationships with other shops, branches, agencies, and departments
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties consistent with the classification
