Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Graduation from an recognized school of nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years current perioperative experience within the last 7 years
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should constantly move or lift up to 10 lbs., regularly move or lift up to 25 lbs., and occasionally be required to restrain, reposition, move or lift up to 30 lbs
- The candidates should constantly stand or walk and work in awkward or cramped positions to assist with procedures
- The candidates should constantly use fine finger or precision, auditory, sensory, and visual concentration to provide and conduct risk assessments, observe or monitor patients, complete documents, follow directions, and administer medications
- The candidates should be able to handle time pressures or deadlines and manage lack of control over work pace and push or pull up to medium force
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have current practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL)
- The candidates should have completed a RN First Assistant Program and demonstrated competency in scrub and circulating roles
- The candidates should have CNA certification for Perioperative nursing and experience in the preceptorship or mentorship role
- The candidates should have demonstrated competency in organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- The candidates should have demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently
- The candidates should provide evidence of active involvement with continuous educational activities
- The candidates should have membership in professional organizations or special interest groups
- The candidates should complete an ACLS course prior to assuming the RNFA role and a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge in perioperative nursing and available for extended working hours
- The candidates should be able to fulfill other perioperative roles, including scrub nurse, circulating nurse, and patient nurse. These roles are not assumed concurrently
- The candidates should be able to provide “on call coverage” for the operating room for the cardiovascular service
