Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of post-secondary education in Microbiology or Chemistry
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 3 years’ experience in a unionized meat or food processing environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in a cold, humid, or wet manufacturing environment with frequent standing or walking and occasional lifting of up to 30 kg and detailed, solutions and results-oriented

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to continue to examine opportunities for personal growth and industry knowledge and demonstrate leadership skills
  • The candidates should have or equivalent, through completion of a recognized food processing continuing education program
  • The candidates should be strong communicators, both written and oral, who are confident, decisive, able to deal with conflict, and achieve win-win results
  • The candidates should have knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, WHIMIS, First Aid, Food Safety, Basic Food Microbiology, and Health and Safety Regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to forge partnerships with multiple cross-functional areas Operations, Maintenance, Food Safety Quality Assurance, Materials to enhance efficiency and productivity
  • The candidates should be proficient in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and have working knowledge in SAP
  • The candidates should have the ability to get things done with minimal supervision and must be flexible to work varying shifts and weekends
  • The candidates should have knowledge of industry-related quality systems and inspection programs, cleaning systems (CIP, COP), and chemicals
  • The candidates should have knowledge of HACCP, GMP, WHIMIS, First Aid, Food Safety, Basic Food Microbiology, Lock Out and Tag Out, and Health and Safety Regulations

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to plan manpower requirements for the department on a daily and weekly basis to achieve plant cleanliness and direct employees in GMPs, HACCP, pre-operational, and sanitation procedures
  • The candidates should be able to prepare reports and maintain records for due diligence of sanitation procedures and continuous improvements and plan sanitation requirements, non-daily tasks, and activities by establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning work, and communicating with sanitation staff and key stakeholders frequently and regularly within timelines
  • The candidates should be able to submit work orders for the repair and maintenance of equipment with follow-up and maximize attendance and reduce absenteeism by coaching, conducting accident investigations, taking disciplinary statements, and administering discipline in line with the Plant’s Discipline Policy
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership by instilling team goals and objectives and fostering good staff relationships to gain commitment from hourly employees and ensure employees are trained and qualified in WHMIS and other programs prior to handling and using chemicals and operating equipment
  • The candidates should be able to approve and submit electronic payroll for employees in the department with due regard to the application of the collective bargaining agreement and Company policies
  • The candidates should be able to undertake to protect the health and safety of employees in accordance with established safe work procedures, Company policies, and applicable provincial legislation
  • The candidates should be able to seek out and apply best practices as solutions to correct deficiencies and embrace the Maple Leaf Leadership Values to create superior shareholder value and meet or exceed CFIA/HACCP requirements
  • The candidates should be able to meet or exceed Health and Safety Scorecard targets and meet or exceed Sanitation Scorecard targets
