Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduated from High School (Grade 12)
Experience: Candidates should have over two years up to three years in Transportation Engineering Technology

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed an additional program of or an equivalent field and over six (6) months, up to and including one (1) year of related experience
  • The candidates should possess a valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s license and membership or be eligible to obtain membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists (OACETT)
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of MS Office and transportation-related software
  • The candidates should demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on customer service

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare all traffic by-laws for council approval and update and maintain all consolidated traffic by-law schedules
  • The candidates should be able to administer and manage Traffic Engineering Software, including collision analysis software and databases, while producing statistical summaries for council and committee reports
  • The candidates should be able to maintain statistical records of sign manufacturing costs and compile cost summaries for budget purposes
  • The candidates should be able to perform field observation studies related to vehicular volume, speed, capacity, and pedestrian traffic, and analyze the collected data for traffic engineering studies
  • The candidates should be able to assist in maintaining computer programs related to traffic records, inventories, and analysis, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility
  • The candidates should be able to arrange for cost recovery related to pavement marking placement, sign installations, and collision damage to City property
  • The candidates should be able to respond to enquiries from staff and the public regarding traffic operations matters, providing clear and informed explanations
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the design and layout of pavement markings, including preparation of plans and field implementation
  • The candidates should be able to manage, update, and maintain the count management system software to ensure accurate traffic data tracking and assist in scheduling, planning, and downloading data from automatic traffic records for analysis and reporting
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and organize departmental purchases and maintain purchasing records and perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to departmental goals
