Other Requirements:

- The candidates should have experience working with heavy machinery and 3 years of experience on railroad as a conductor
- The candidates should possess a valid driver’s license and a certified conductor or locomotive engineer

Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to attend Front Line Supervisor Development Programs to learn and understand the organization, operational rules, and regulations and train unionized employees on safe and productive work procedures and sustain the right employee behaviors with feedback, recognition, reinforcement, and coaching and process leave of absence and time off requests (varies depending on location)
- The candidates should be able to build safety compliance and improve safety results through regular safety observations, providing feedback (positive and constructive) to subordinates, and taking action on non-compliant behavior and ensure safe operation as measured by accidents, incidents, and employee injuries and monthly safety observation expectations and objectives in regard to the safety management plan
- The candidates should be able to respond to and provide support for crossing accidents, incidents, or injuries, working with the police and managing the site until the track and service are restored and draft submissions for accident and injury investigation closeouts and provide support for dangerous goods incidents or leaks, liaising with the Dangerous Goods Officer and ensuring employee and public well-being
- The candidates should be able to train, audit, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures, play a role in the investigation of accidents and incidents and maintain teamwork and order amongst staff, contractors, and internal clients by acting with a sense of urgency and responding to issues as they arise
- The candidates should be able to use operational data in CN systems to identify opportunities to improve asset utilization and service reliability, taking action for their territory and making recommendations for the network and oversee crew utilization, track deadheads, recrews, and labor costs, and improve operations and cost control in conjunction with the Transportation Manager and Assistant Superintendent
- The candidates should be able to set recovery plans for service exceptions in conjunction with Rail Traffic Control (RTC) center, Transportation Manager, and Assistant Superintendent and timely reporting of delays, identifying ways to reduce delays, and managing Initial Terminal Delay and Final Terminal Delay and work with rail traffic control to manage train lineups and meets, predicting estimated arrival times and crew and manage crew productivity against switching standards, recommending improvements when appropriate
- The candidates should be able to keep track of yard status, service commitments, old dates, inbound arrivals, process traffic to reduce dwell, and ensure train connections and departures meet the service plan, determine the best opportunity to move traffic against multiple demands, give recommendations for cost control and asset utilization in all planning and implementation
- The candidates should be able to monitor the customer service plan and make adjustments, communicate company goals and policies to create a clear understanding of direction and expectations for unionized employees and conduct investigations per the collective agreement and issue discipline with support from the Transportation Manager or Assistant Superintendent and Labour Relations
- The candidates should be able to evaluate employee performance, reviewing performance expectations, actual performance, and overall ratings and conduct onboarding conversations to ensure employees adopt proper work practices and have the necessary knowledge, tools, and understanding to perform their jobs safely and efficiently
- The candidates should be able to identify and coach performance deficiencies, taking action to build required behaviors and share best practices, information, operational concerns, and company information to create transparency and a clear understanding of company direction and expectations
