Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have a community College certificate and/or equivalent training, education
Experience: Candidates should have experience in a child-related field and current certification in CPR and First Aid
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff using American Sign Language (ASL)
- The candidates should have excellent communication skills, written English, and American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate effectively with students and staff
- The candidates should have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and observation skills to identify students’ needs/difficulties
- The candidates should have ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and willingness to assist special needs students
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have demonstrated experience working with students who are deaf and may have other emotional and behavioral disorders
- The candidates should have knowledge of relevant legislation/policies / procedures / guidelines / practices that address student care and safety
- The candidates should have demonstrated experience implementing academic and prescribed behavior management programs in the classroom
- The candidates should have knowledge of education terms and strategies as they relate to students with behavioral and educational exceptionalities
- The candidates should have knowledge of child development and an understanding of caring for students with special needs
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work with students who are Deaf in a classroom setting
- The candidates should be able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting
- The candidates should be able to assist in providing individual and group programs to students who are Deaf
- The candidates should be able to assist with the physical needs of students
- The candidates should be able to follow up on specialized programs set up by other agencies/professionals
- The candidates should be able to assist in program preparation and materials
