Government of the Northwest Territories’ Housing NWT department manages housing initiatives and programs within the territory. It oversees affordable housing projects, rental assistance programs, and housing development strategies. Through collaboration with communities and stakeholders, it addresses housing needs and promotes housing affordability. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Canadian professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA or CPA)
Experience: Candidates should have three (3) years of working experience in Financial Management, and one (1) year of Supervisory experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards, public sector handbook accounting standards, financial analysis, and fiscal planning
  • The candidates should have knowledge of financial activities in a corporate environment and have knowledge of the Territorial Lands Act and Regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate interpersonal skills and the ability to solve complex problems and provide conflict resolution
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of Human Resource management and administrative practices
  • The candidates should possess knowledge and experience in mainframe accounting systems
  • The candidates should demonstrate organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report directly to the District Director
  • The candidates should be able to have fiduciary responsibility for the Financial, Human Resource, and Administrative Affairs of the District
  • The candidates should be able to manage financial systems and safeguard corporate assets
  • The candidates should be able to prepare, issue, and distribute financial reports
  • The candidates should be able to maintain internal financial controls and ensure effective financial management processes and practices in the District Office and LHOs
  • The candidates should be able to provide training, development, and support to Corporate and Local Housing Organization staff
