Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of an accredited nursing education program
Experience: Candidates should have three years’ experience in Pediatric acute care inpatients
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- The candidates should be able to sit/stand for long periods of time
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), PEARs certification, Certified Diabetes Educators Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification and Basic Cardiac Life Support Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
- The candidates should have extensive patient education and experience supporting patients and families by telephone/email/My Chart
- The candidates should possess excellent assessment, interpersonal, communication, teamwork, Connect Care, strong computer/technology and problem-solving skills
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to apply teaching and learning theory to children and their families
- The candidates must be able to pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam, completed at the time of the interview with 90%
- The candidates should have recent knowledge and experience working with children who have diabetes in both acute and ambulatory settings
- The candidates should preferably hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing
- The candidates should preferably have experience with or knowledge of insulin pumps
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide Registered Nurse (RN) support to physicians and the interdisciplinary team for all clinics
- The candidates should be able to provide nursing support for families via phones/email/pager, caregiver/teacher workshops and educating and teaching in the Insulin pump program as a primary team member
- The candidates should be able to function as a clinical resource expert to Stollery staff of the other Inpatient/Ambulatory Pediatric Units and deliver high-quality patient care while also supporting/mentoring staff within the department
- The candidates should be able to participate in program development, quality improvement, research, education and clinical teaching activities
- The candidates should be able to provide safe and effective nursing care according to AHS/Stollery hospital policies and procedures and CRNA Nursing Care Standards
- The candidates should be able to adopt a Family Centered Care approach to patient/family care
- The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, while ensuring their safety and well-being
- The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.
- The candidates should be able to play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance
- The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
