Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 Technical School with courses in English, mathematics, science, and technology
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have majoring in automotive technology (both in Grades 11 and 12) or have successfully completed an equivalent automotive certificate program through a recognized community college
- The candidates should possess a valid non-probationary Class “G” or better Ontario driver’s license
- The candidates should be willing to attend and successfully complete TTC in-house courses, including but not necessarily limited to: direct current fundamentals, automotive circuits, air conditioning and CFC certification, multiplex wiring, electronic transmission and engine controls, passenger accessibility equipment, and CZ license upgrade or verification
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to acquire all required skill sets as outlined by Skilled Trades Ontario by successfully completing a roughly 6,700-hour training program (approximately 3-4 years)
- The candidates should be able to work under the direction of a licensed Coach Technician and acquire knowledge and skills on a variety of automotive systems and components
- The candidates should be able to be exposed to all areas of Duncan Shops and Bus Garages in order to become proficient in the repair and maintenance of buses
- The candidates should be able to focus on engine rebuilding, hybrid propulsion systems, diesel fuel injection, air brake systems, vehicle electrical systems, air conditioning systems, and heavy-duty suspension systems
- The candidates should be able to, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and associated examinations, be classified as Coach Technicians (Wage Group 12) and be assigned to the first available vacancy in a Bus Garage or Duncan Shop in accordance with the Maintenance Seniority Regulations
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment, helping to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
