Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a post secondary college diploma
Experience: Candidates should have previous supervisory experience in structural rehabilitation

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to direct, motivate, and coordinate the efforts of a unionized workforce to accomplish objectives

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to identify and minimize the risk of Health and Safety issues and apply relevant laws and regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate specialized expertise and knowledge and be proficient in using office technology, software, and applications
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively in a variety of mediums and knowledge of construction techniques, including concrete or structural steel rehabilitation and repair of bridges and structures
  • The candidates should have  trade license in a related discipline (construction-related) or have a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • The candidates should be able to read and comprehend detailed construction blueprints, design drawings, sketches, and technical specifications
  • The candidates should possess a valid class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s Licence and be prepared to operate their personal automobile to inspect work sites or locations
  • The candidates should be willing to attend and successfully complete various supervisory, safety, and technical training programs related to the section and Structure Maintenance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to complete daily job briefings and work plans, reviewing them in detail with hourly-rated employees to ensure that all aspects and hazards associated with the work are fully understood
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Foreperson with administrative tasks, such as completing the daily journal, timekeeping, record keeping, signing stock requisitions, purchase requisitions, vacation or bereavement requests, and injury investigations
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that policies, safety, and track maintenance projects are aligned with standards, and that employees are appropriately trained on aspects of their work
  • The candidates should be able to verify that the accuracy, quality, reliability, functionality, system requirements, and specifications are met in a given process, document, piece of equipment, system, or work method
  • The candidates should be able to complete tasks required to manage people (administrative duties), including approving or authorizing requests that meet standard and policy expectations and compliance regulations
  • The candidates should be able to plan, adjust, and project work, schedules, costs, and systems and provide assistance in the preparation, development, monitoring, or other needs for a given project or organizational unit
  • The candidates should be able to inspect equipment items and rebuild or improve functionality through methods such as forming, bending, welding, or other fabrication techniques
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and track information, data, records, and equipment, following up and updating
  • The candidates should be able to input or record data, organize resources estimates, employee-related documentation, schedules, inventory), prepare documentation and/or reports, and distribute them to the appropriate parties in accordance with established standards
