Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of pushing or pulling desks to sweep and realign rows, and lifting or carrying bagged garbage weighing up to 50 lbs
  • The candidates should be prepared for irregularly required repeated lift or carry operations when clearing classrooms of desks and furnishings
  • The candidates should be comfortable with reaching, stooping, and twisting to perform cleaning tasks, and occasionally maintaining physical balance while working from a stepladder for tasks such as dusting and maintenance
  • The candidates should expect their daily work routine to involve continuous standing and walking
  • The candidates should be able to operate equipment and tools requiring whole-body control and coarse movements, such as a vacuum cleaner and broom
  • The candidates should be able to handle mental demands including maintaining designated areas of the school facility in a clean and tidy condition within a regular work schedule, despite unanticipated cleaning requirements creating conflicting priorities
  • The candidates should be capable of unlocking doors for individuals needing access to rooms like the library or other school areas
  • The candidates should be able to operate a scrubbing machine, which irregularly requires concentration and visual attention for short to moderate periods

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Ontario driver’s license and good hearing to detect malfunctions in equipment
  • The candidates should have the ability to interpret simple drawings and relate them to operating equipment
  • The candidates should be able to visually compare parts for wear and repair or replace items such as air filters
  • The candidates should demonstrate eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to make rapid and accurate adjustments or minor repairs to equipment
  • The candidates should have physical strength for light to medium work, including carrying tools and parts, and agility to climb stairs and ladders, and crouch, crawl, kneel, or balance on scaffolds to make adjustments or minor repairs to equipment
  • The candidates should have good vision to read gauges and charts and judge distances

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to unlock school doors in the morning and check to see if the furnace is running. Check the furnace pilot light and listen to hear if it is running, check thermostat. Responsible for turning on Security Systems and reporting any security problems to the Superintendent. Responsible for keys
  • The candidates should be able to stock cleaning cart with cleaning fluids, paper products, rags, utensils from on-hand supplies. Advise Maintenance Supervisor of low stock items
  • The candidates should be able to sweep floors; tidy and reposition furnishings; pick up litter and refuse, empty waste baskets, and stack bagged garbage for removal
  • The candidates should be able to unlock rooms and areas to perform cleaning tasks. Ensure windows are closed and doors locked when cleaning of area is complete. Unlock doors to rooms or areas to admit authorized personnel Board members and teachers
  • The candidates should be able to daily clean doors, windows, sweep outside entrances, clean toilet seats, bathroom sinks, and drinking fountains
  • The candidates should be able to daily wash table tops and desks, scraping glue off desktops
  • The candidates should be able to replenish toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap in dispensers
  • The candidates should be able to weekly vacuum offices, and specialized rooms such as computer room, library, and Board room
  • The candidates should be able to weekly clean sink, wash blackboards, and chalk ledges Dust computers, tables, and shelves in computer room and library
  • The candidates should be able to replenish toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap in dispensers and clean mirrors and wipe walls to remove graffiti when
