Requirements:

Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of working in a dense urban environment with competing priorities and deadlines

Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a Professional Engineering Licence and membership in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or licensing as a professional engineer in good standing in another Canadian province or jurisdiction with the ability to obtain a P. Eng. license with PEO
- The candidates should have engineering, project management, or extensive experience in managing consulting and construction assignments in areas such as water treatment, wastewater treatment, wastewater pumping stations, water pumping stations and reservoirs, energy from waste, power plants, complex chemical or process or industrial plants, and other relevant projects
- The candidates should have a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
- The candidates should have knowledge of legislation related to the Construction Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Federal Fisheries Act and Conservation Act
- The candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively to various audiences, both verbally and in writing
- The candidates should be proficient in using general computer software Microsoft Office
- The candidates should support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces
- The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of audiences and represent the City on committees and conduct research and development for the effective resolution of engineering issues and initiate and lead technical studies and projects
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work on mainly vertical infrastructure projects from initiation, scoping, and gathering of background information to assisting the client and manager in preparing the capital budget, through project execution and up to warranty completion
- The candidates should be able to ensure that all required permits and approvals are secured for projects they manage or support and review technical memoranda, engineering reports, multidisciplinary engineering design drawings, and contract specifications
- The candidates should be able to identify and consult with stakeholders to ensure projects are on schedule and that expenditures are within budget and cash flow estimates
- The candidates should be able to verify payments and implement quality control or quality assurance for both design and construction phases
- The candidates should be able to provide advice and engineering reviews to ensure compliance with the City’s and other applicable standards, specifications, guidelines, and requirements from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and the Ministry of Labour (MOL)
- The candidates should be able to prepare engineering analyses, justifications, and evaluations to recommend change orders for senior management approval and advise on major issues or decisions
- The candidates should be able to participate on various technical or project management committees that impact or contribute to the management of Major Infrastructure projects and negotiate claims with contractors and consultants and coordinate continuously with identified stakeholders throughout the execution of the project
- The candidates should be able to attend meetings and provide input, manage public complaints during construction, prepare presentations for Councillors, prepare construction notices, and complete public consultation in line with project
