Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education (or Grade 12 equivalency), must hold a certificate of qualification as a Commercial and Residential Painter and Decorator issued by the Ontario Ministry of Skills Development
Experience: Candidates should require up to 3.5 years of experience which will include the 1 year as a Painter’s Improver to become proficient in all aspects of the work
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License
- The candidates must take instruction and pass the written and driving tests set by the Operations Training Centre for the required operation of Commission vehicles, as well as for forklift operation
- The candidates must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to prepare and apply paint, wall covering, or other finishes to a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces such as plaster, drywall, wood, or metal using a variety of techniques including scraping, sanding, brushing, and spraying
- The candidates should be able to glaze windows and skylights and make engraved signs as required
- The candidates should be able to set up and operate a computerized engraving machine and a bevelling machine in the manufacture of signs; they may also be responsible for installing signs upon completion
- The candidates should be able to drive Commission vehicles to transport crew and equipment to work locations, as well as operate a forklift for loading and unloading materials
- The candidates should be able to treat passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity, ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, allowing them to fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer
